KickStarter Bans Concept Renderings
Perhaps as a sign that Computer Aided Design (CAD) renderings are becoming ever more sophisticated, Kickstarter, the crowdfunding website has effectively banned the use of photo-realistic renders from its site. Its terms now state that: ‘Product images must be photos of the prototype as it currently exists.’
It appears that several project backers have not had communicated to them the effort required to go from an idea to a fully functioning device no matter how ‘real’ the concept may look.
At Minima, while we make full use of CAD renders to develop products, we back this approach. Our integrated prototyping facilities are able to deliver fully functioning prototype products to the real-world at an early stage that gives our clients a proven advantage over virtual alternatives.
